LAND OF THE DUKE

Explore Herzegovina, the southern part of Bosnia, once known as the Land of the Duke.

Taste the  traditional Bosnian cuisine made by local people, explore Ottoman Blagaj and Medieval Pocitelj.

Find refreshment in the natural beauty and emerald water of Kravice Waterfalls and explore the pilgrimage mecca of Medjugorje.

This 8 hour day trip includes guided tours of  Blagaj, Počitelj, Kravice Waterfalls, Mogorjelo, Ortodox monastery Zitomislici and Medjugorje.

The guide will take you on a trip through time, telling interesting facts along the way, starting with the early civilizations inhabiting these regions, through different periods, including the Ilirian Tribes, Romans, Bosnian Medieval Kingdom, Ottomans.

All of these periods in history were marked by conquest, rebellion and courage of warriors and ordinary people. The tour is designed to allow you to understand the history of the region, the different intertwining cultures and underlying conflicts. It will help you understand more about the people that lived here in the centuries long gone, as well as about the people that live here now.

BLAGAJ

On our first stop we visit  Blagaj, centre of rule of the medieval ruler of Herzegovina, Hercog – Grand Duke Stjepan Kosaca.

Blagaj was also the birthplace of the last Bosnian Queen, Katarina Kosaca.

Later, in the 15. century when Ottomans took control of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Blagaj became the administrative center of the region.

Blagaj was also a home of the Sufi Dervish order where a Tekke was built at the very entrance to a cave where river Buna, the strongest Carts River in all of Europe, gushes out feeding water mills built just meters bellow.

Upon arrival to Blagaj, guide will do an introductory talk and give you free time to explore Blagaj on your own.

After Blagaj we proceed to Pocitelj, a wonderful example of a traditional Ottoman Fortified town. On our way to Pocitelj we will make a stop to visit Zitomislici Ortodox monastery.

POCITELJ

Pocitelj is surrounded with a medieval moat type of fortification with a guard tower overlooking the town. Pocitelj was also a resting point for caravans traveling from from Dubrovnik towards the north parts of Bosnia.

After an orientation talk by the guide, you will have free time to explore Pocitelj and climb the guard tower and as a reward you will get a magnificent view of the region and nice cold breeze in your face.

After leaving Pocitelj and on our way to Kravice Waterfalls we will make a brief stop to admire the remains of Roman Vila Rustica.

KRAVICE WATERFALLS

We leave Pocitelj setting course for Kravica waterfall, a beautiful emerald cascade on Trebizat river . We will stay here for 2 hours with the opportunity to swim, jump, hike or just enjoy lunch at the riverside restaurant.

MEDJUGORJE

Last stop is Medjugorje, a catholic pilgrimage site where according to some locals, virgin Mary appeared to some local children in the 80’ties helping Medjugorje become one of the biggest catholic pilgrimage sites in the world.

In Medjugorje you will have free time for meditation, prayer and soul-searching and than we head back to Mostar.

Upon arrival to Mostar, we say farewell to the guide and have free time to explore Mostar at night.

  1. Departure 10:00

    Please be ready for departure at 10:00. Meet your guide\driver at previously agreed upon location.

  2. Blagaj 10:30 - 11:30

    Upon arrival to Blagaj, guide will do an introductory talk and give you free time to explore Blagaj on your own.

  3. Zitomislici Ortodox Monastery 12:00 - 12:30

    On our way to Pocitelj we will make a stop to visit Zitomislici Ortodox monastery.

  4. Pocitelj 12:45- 13:45

    After an orientation talk by the guide, you will have free time to explore Pocitelj and climb the guard tower.

  5. Mogorjelo 14:00 - 14:20

    After leaving Pocitelj and on our way to Kravice Waterfalls we will make a brief stop to admire the remains of Roman Vila Rustica.

  6. Kravice Waterfalls 14:40 - 16:40

    We leave Mogorjelo and go to Kravice waterfalls, a beautiful emerald cascade on Trebizat River.

    We will stay here for 2 hours and here you will have the opportunity to swim, jump, hike or just enjoy your lunch at the riverside restaurant.

  7. Medjugorje 17:00 - 18:00

    Last stop is Medjugorje, a catholic pilgrimage site where according to some locals, virgin Mary appeared to some local children in the 80’ties.

    In Medjugorje you will have free time for meditation, prayer and soul-searching and than we head back to Mostar.

  8. Return to Mostar 18:00 - 19:00

    Getting ready to go back to Mostar. Duration of the drive is 1 hour and this is a perfect opportunity to have a nap and feel refreshed and energized.

Best to use sports or summer hiking shoes as the terrain in some places might be a bit rough.

Most of our guests come wearing flip-flops so I guess that works well too.

Our recommendation is to wear shoes and bring flip-flops in your backpack.

Now, how much money you would need, well that depends on your life style but we can tell you the prices of basic goods and services.

An average meal costs 10.00 KM and beverage prices range from 2.00 KM for bottled water to 5.00 KM for 500ml draught beer.

Entrance fee for Kravice Waterfalls National Park costs 4.00 KM and Entrance fee for Blagaj Tekke (optional – 4.00 KM )
